Frequently asked questions
Joining Lightful is simple. Create your profile on the platform, list your skills and portfolio, and set your availability. Once approved, you’ll start receiving project invitations from companies looking for lighting expertise. You remain in control — you decide which projects to accept and when to work.
Lightful connects engineers with a wide range of projects: lighting design for new buildings, retrofit calculations, compliance with EN standards, tender documentation, and consulting for smart lighting systems. Projects vary in scale — from short tasks to large, multi-month engagements — giving engineers the flexibility to choose what suits their skills and schedule.
Payments on Lightful are secured through an escrow system. When a project begins, the client deposits the agreed fee into the platform. Once the engineer delivers the work and it is approved, the payment is released automatically. This protects both sides — engineers are guaranteed payment, and clients only pay for work that meets their requirements.
Yes — creating a profile and accessing project opportunities on Lightful is free of charge. The platform provides the infrastructure for engineers to get deals, and Lightful earns only through commissions on successfully completed projects. By default, there are no subscription fees. However, engineers who want additional visibility or premium tools can unlock them via optional in-app purchases under a freemium plan.
No — while Lightful was founded in Europe, projects are open to lighting engineers worldwide. However, many clients require knowledge of EU standards (such as EN 12464 or BREEAM certification requirements). Engineers outside the EU are welcome as long as they can deliver work that complies with local or international requirements.
